A Week Alone
Young Friends of Film
Wednesday, March 4, 2009 at 7:30pm

Director Celina Murga will answer questions after the screening, and then there will be a post-film party with an open bar and hors d’oeuvres in the Furman Gallery, adjacent to the Walter Reade Theater's lobby.

Update: Unfortunately due to a schedule conflict, Martin Scorsese is unable to introduce the screening.

Murga’s follow-up to her prizewinning film Ana and the Others captures the adventures of several children and adolescents whose wealthy parents are off on extended holidays. Left to fend for themselves in their gated community, the kids try to create some semblance of a moral code as the drama moves toward a quietly devastating climax.

Murga, best-director winner at the 2008 Thessaloniki Film Festival for A Week Alone, worked with Martin Scorsese in 2008 as part of the Rolex Mentor and Protégé Arts Initiative. A native of Paraná, Entre Ríos Province, Argentina, she is a partner in a production company and teacher at the Centro de Investación Cinematográfica. A Week Alone (Una semana solos, Argentina, 2007; 110m) is her second film. It is an official selection of The Film Society’s Film Comment Selects series.
