"NEW YORK DANCE States of Performance" is Michael Blackwood's new survey of advanced choreography after "Making Dances" (1979, curated Marcia B. Siegel) and "Retracing Steps" (1988, curated by Sally Banes). Critic Gia Kourlas is curator of "New York Dance" and her choices are Beth Gill, John Jasperse, Ralph Lemon, Sarah Michelson, Jennifer Monson, Christopher Wheeldon and Ann Liv Young. The choreographers were filmed in rehearsals, performance and in conversation with critic Kourlas.

CELEBRATING CHOREOGRAPHER ALWIN NIKOLAIS

All Day Event!

An innovator in love with movement, Alwin Nikolais astonished the world of dance with his dazzling multimedia performances in the ’60s and ’70s. This special program celebrates the beloved “Nik” with special guests, tribute films from former dancers turned choreographers, a documentary portrait of Nikolais and his muse/collaborator Murray Louis (in attendance!), rare interviews, and more. This one-day-only extravaganza spotlights an impish “wise child” whose universe was an ever evolving garden of visual delights.
