Working quickly, intuitively, and with a practiced eye, Ivan Chermayeff creates collages full of wit and surprise. “I like to bring things together that absolutely don’t belong together,” he says, but the results have a seductive harmony that recalls the elegant compositions of Matisse and Joseph Cornell. Chermayeff’s collages have been shown all over the world, most recently in a one-person show at the Pera Museum in Istanbul. Chermayeff is a founding partner of the legendary graphic design firm Chermayeff & Geismar.
