I Love You Phillip Morris
Monday, November 15 at 7:00pm

A special preview of screenwriting team Ficarra and Requa’s queer Sturges-esque satirical vision of the American Dream. Starring Jim Carrey and Ewan McGregor. Post-screening Q&A with both directors, moderated by Film Comment contributing writer Paul Brunick, will be followed by an open bar afterparty!

Scene PhotoSteven (Jim Carrey) is a poster boy for the Moral Majority: church organist, deputy cop, dutiful provider. But after a near-fatal car crash, he re-evaluates his priorities, comes out of the closet, and moves to fabulous Miami. Sowing a lifetime’s worth of wild gay oats (funded by petty embezzlement), he ends up in jail where he meets Phillip Morris (Ewan McGregor), cute as a puppy and twice as trusting. Cue the falling-in-love montage. As hilariously risqué and sardonically incisive as Bad Santa, this true-crime saga hustles viewers into a shrewd confidence game.

I Love You Phillip Morris
Glenn Ficarra & John Requa, USA, 2009; 102m

We Card: Presentation of valid ID required to be served alcoholic beverages at the afterparty in the Furman Gallery.
