Post-screening Q&A with screenwriter Christopher Hampton and actor James McAvoy.
Join us for a special advance screening of this thrilling new adaptation of Ian McEwan’s bestselling novel, from director Joe Wright (Pride & Prejudice) and writer Christopher Hampton (Dangerous Liaisons, Carrington). Atonement spans three different time periods –– a tempestuous summer day on a sprawling English country estate in 1935, when 13-year-old Briony Tallis (Saoirse Ronan) makes a sudden and fateful intervention in the fledgling romance between her sister Cecilia (Keira Knightley) and Robbie (James McAvoy, who made a splash in last year’s The Last King of Scotland), the son of their family's housekeeper; the war years in Britain, during which an older Briony (Romola Garai) is beginning her atonement for the past by working as a nurse-trainee; and London around the turn of the new century. Wright, Hampton and the cast and crew have fashioned a modern epic that retains the moral and psychological complexity of McEwan's novel.
